- HS97R
- Product Features
- HS97R is a tungsten-molybdenum type high-speed steel that is improved from SKH57; it is highly wear resistance like SKH57 but its machinability is better than SKH57.
Vacuum quenching structure of HS97R high-speed steel (quenching temperature 1190℃, X 400): the grains of HS97R are still extremely refined even under vacuum quenching.
High hardenability of HS97R high-speed steel: still able to obtain high heat-treatment hardness even if the cooling speed is slow.
Grains of HS97R high-speed steel do not grow easily; the grains are still refined even if under high austenite temperature.
Flexural strength of HS97R high-speed steel appears higher compared to other steel types of the same hardness, and its toughness is excellent.
For cutting: High tensile strength steels, heat-resistance steels, stainless steels, alloy tool steels, titanium alloys and other hard-to-cut materials. High-speed cutting of general structural steels, soft metals.
For molds: Cold forging, forming molds, various types of dies and other molds.
General purpose
・Bit, end mills, bores, blades for band saw machines.
・Industrial tools requiring high hardness and sharp edges, wood-working tool.
・Punching tools with clear heat generation.
Purpose of development
HM42 high-speed steels were used for end mills in the past and the tool tips had problem of pre-mature chipping; HS97R high-speed steel is the high-performance end mill which has improved the problem.
HS97R HSS features
NACHI’s HS97R high-speed steel is the newly developed tungsten-molybdenum-cobalt type high-speed steel; its quality surpasses the high-carbon, tungsten-molybdenum-cobalt type high-speed steel in the past. The purpose of this product is to increase the performance of cutting tools; it has enhanced the slicing resistance and improved the wear resistance, and improved the overall hardenability. At the same time, take consideration of the steel-making method, especially in the homogeneity when adding alloy elements to increase the grain crystallization and make carbide more refined, so that the grains and steel is more distributed.
Tempering of HS97R HSS
・Tempering temperature: 540~580℃.
・Tempering times: Please implement at least three times.
Hardness of HS97R HSS
65~69 HRC; actual maximum hardness is higher than HRC68; the hardness standard is also higher than regular steel types.
Hardenability of HS97R HSS
・Large range of appropriate quenching temperature (1180℃~1230℃), ease of heat-treatment, stable quality. Excellent hardenability, also easy to use gas for self-cooling quenching.
・Preheating: 550~600℃, secondary heating to 900℃
・Quenching: 1180~1220℃
・Quenching time: Until the center of the heat-treated workpiece is fully heated.
Grain crystallization and slicing resistance of HS97R HSS
・Grain crystals are refined, and abnormal steel types are not easily formed during quench heating; highly toughness, has good sliceability as a cutting tool, and has better performance than the old HSS steel types which contained cobalt.
Mechanical characteristics of HS97R HSS
・Has excellent high-temperature hardness and wear resistance; although it is high in cobalt content, it also has excellent toughness.
