SKH9 HSS features
・Tungsten-molybdenum type (6-5-2 type) is the most common type of high-speed steel; the usage of SKH9 (SKH51) is especially heavy on a global scale, and it can replace SKH2 high-speed steel types that contain tungsten.
・The carbide particles are refined and complete, and evenly distributed, therefore, they are highly compatible in terms of toughness in wear resistance.
By adjusting the carbon content alone, the quality of steel can be changed continuously and significantly without affecting high-temperature characteristics.
Low-carbon steel can be used should there be demand for toughness; high-carbon steel is used if high hardness and wear resistance is required.
・Has good hot- and cold-moldability, machinability, grindability.
・Highly compatible with surface-processing techniques using nitride.
・Quenching temperature is lower than tungsten type high-speed steel, thus it is energy efficient and has good machinability.
Hardness of SKH9 HSS
58~66 HRC
Quenching of SKH9 HSS
・Preheating: 550~600℃, secondary heating to 950℃
・Quenching: 1150~1220℃
・Quenching time: Until the center of the heat-treated workpiece is fully heated.
Tempering of SKH9 HSS
・Tempering temperature: 540~580℃.
・Tempering times: Please implement at least twice.
